Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: it's a small world

"It's a world of laughter, a world of tears, it's a world of hopes and a world of fears.  There's so much that we share, that it's time we're aware, it's a small world after all!"

Now that the song is firmly implanted in your brain (you're welcome!), here is a fascinating fact about the attraction.  Before the Sherman Brothers came up with this melody, they initially proposed that the music accompanying the ride be a blending of several National Anthems.  I personally can't imagine this ride without it's current theme song!  Today's trivia is courtesy of Susan Veness's great book, "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World Trivia".  Oh, and courtesy of my hubby, who bought me the book as a "just because" gift! :)

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: Living With the Land

It's time for another round of Tiggerific Tuesday #DisneyTrivia!  Do you know why there are red lights in the aqua culture area of "Living with the Land"? 

At the time when this attraction was being built, research suggested that red lights were beneficial to aqua culture.  More recent studies suggest that the color of the  light has no impact.  The red lights, though, still remain a very recognizable part of the ride through.

Tiggerific Tuesday:The American Adventure

Wow.  It's been almost 2 months since my last post!  Sorry for the long hiatus -- we were renovating and moving into a new home, which cut into my blog time.  Back to it! :)

Welcome to this week's Tiggerific Tuesday!  Did you know that there were originally supposed to be 3 narrators for the American Adventure?  Will Rogers was originally to be a 20th century narrator; eventually, it was decided that 2 was enough.  Benjamin Franklin and Samuel Langhorn Clemens (AKA Mark Twain) were retained; Will Rogers still appears, but in a minor role.

Did you know?  According to Lou Mongello's The Walt Disney World Trivia Book Vol. 2, Splash Mountain's flume can be drained in 5 minutes, and it can be refilled in a little over 20 minutes!

Did you know? Yetis love Mickey!  OK, that may be a bit broad of a statement, but there's a least one who does...

Check out the standby queue of Expedition Everest.  In the Ye-Tea shop (at least that's what I like to call it), there is an adorable little Yeti wearing Mickey ears.  Isn't he cute?!

Tiggerific Tuesday: Maximus in Fantasyland

We all know that the Imagineers do an amazing job of weaving details into the story line of the parks.  This includes the detailing on the many pathways.  Check out the paths near the new Tangled bathrooms and into Fantasyland.  Among the hoof prints, you can see the imprint of Maximus' special horseshoes.

Tiggerific Tuesday: Spaceship Earth

Did you know?  Both walls are decorated in the caveman scene of Spaceship Earth.  I took a photo of the right hand wall (there are no audio animatronics here, so you don't think to look!), and this is what I saw!  I believe I initially read this tip in Susan Veness's book "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World".

Tiggerific Tuesday: The Brown Derby

Did you know that The Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney's Hollywood Studios is a very close replica to the original?  In addition to similar achitecture and caricatures of Hollywood Stars gracing the walls, this restaurant serves some dishes made famous by the original, including a Cobb Salad and Grapefruit Cake.  

It's healthy because it's grapefruit... right? :)

Tiggerific Tuesday: Expedition Everest

Welcome to today's Tiggerific Tuesday! Did you know that from the top of Expedition Everest, you can see both Hollywood Studios and Epcot Resort Area?  In the picture below, look carefully, and you can see the Swan & Dolphin out in the distance.  In the second picture, look VERY closely and you will see the "Earful Tower" from The Hollywood Studios Backlot Tour.

Tiggerific Tuesday: Sleeping Beauty Castle

Do you know that there is one turret of Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland that looks different?  During a recent refurbishment, when they added the Disney Princess Fantasy Faire section, some trees and foliage were removed, and this revealed a turret, heretofore hidden, that had not been repainted along with the rest of the castle (since it wasn't onstage, there was no need to paint it at the time).  Will they repaint it? Or perhaps maybe will they just leave it to pay homage to the original?  Thanks to the Cast Member at the Disneyland Booking Department for pointing out this fun trivia!

Tiggerific Tuesday: Buzz Lightyear

Did you know that there are several targets in Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin that will net you 100,000 points?  The first one is on the left hand of the Giant Robot right when you enter the first room. :) You're welcome.

Tiggerific Tuesday: Tangled

 

 Did you know that "Tangled" wasn't initially supposed to be called "Tangled"?  On a tour through the Animation Studios in 2009, I just so happened to take pictures of two upcoming feature attraction posters: The Princess and the Frog and Rapunzel.  

Well, The Princess and the Frog was released as planned (same movie poster, too!), but Rapunzel was revamped before it's release.

Tiggerific Tuesday: Frontierland Train Station

Did you know?  Before Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain existed, Frontierland had a huge train station, almost as large as Main Street, U.S.A.  Although I sadly don't have any pictures, the old station was very open -- there was really nothing else past the Country Bear Jamboree.  At this time, there were only 2 stops on the train.  I'm not entirely sure when the train stationed was minimized, but on my husband's park map from 1980, it is still there.

Tiggerific Tuesday: The Chapeau

As you enter the Magic Kingdom, you face the beautiful sight of Cinderella Castle and the shops of Main Street, U.S.A.  On the far right, attached to the candy store, you'll find a little shop called The Chapeau (french for "hat").  In addition to the dozens of Mickey Ear hats, you'll find a quaint old-fashioned wall phone.  Pick it up -- and you can listen in on a turn-of-the-century party line.  You can spend a good few minutes listening in on a conversation.  It's really cute to hear, and it's fun to learn about how things were during this time period.  Next time you're there, don't be shy!  You'll not be disappointed.  Thanks to Susan Veness's great book, "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World", for pointing out this fun piece of trivia!

Tiggerific Tuesday: The Living Seas

The Seas with Nemo & Friends (formerly the Living Seas) contains a huge aquarium, which stretches 203 feet in diameter.  So how much water does this hold?  The answer is 5.7 million gallons of man-made sea water.  Just to give you an idea of a comparison, a standard-sized swimming pool contains about 20,000 gallons.  In fact, you could fill your backyard pool by simply skimming one inch from the top of this amazing aquarium.  In order to contain all of this water, Disney had to create special acrylic windows that are 8 inches thick.  When dining at the Coral Reef (around the back of the pavilion), you can experience all of the wonderful marine life from the aquarium.  And if you read the little card on each of the tables, you can read these facts and more!

Tiggerific Tuesday: Morocco/ToT

 

Did you know?  The Tower of Terror in WDW is designed with a slightly "Moroccan" flair.  Why? Because it is visible from Morocco in Epcot!

I'm sure this has been shared before, but there are still people who don't realize it, so I thought I'd share again!

Did you know?  The Liberty Bell in Liberty Square is a "second generation" bell.  It was cast directly from the real deal, and it's a one-of-a-kind!  Today's trivia is courtesy of Lou Mongello's "Walt Disney World Trivia Book Volume 2".

Tiggerific Tuesday: Pirates of the Caribbean

Did you know?  The drop near the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean (just before the Capt. Barbossa scene) exists to take you under the Railroad Tracks.  The building's entrance and exit is in Adventureland, but the ride building itself extends out much further.
