Tiggerific Tuesday: The Chapeau
As you enter the Magic Kingdom, you face the beautiful sight of Cinderella Castle and the shops of Main Street, U.S.A. On the far right, attached to the candy store, you'll find a little shop called The Chapeau (french for "hat"). In addition to the dozens of Mickey Ear hats, you'll find a quaint old-fashioned wall phone. Pick it up -- and you can listen in on a turn-of-the-century party line. You can spend a good few minutes listening in on a conversation. It's really cute to hear, and it's fun to learn about how things were during this time period. Next time you're there, don't be shy! You'll not be disappointed. Thanks to Susan Veness's great book, "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World", for pointing out this fun piece of trivia!

I've read about the party line phone in a couple of different places, but I've still never actually gone and listened to it! Thanks for the great reminder, I'm going to try and be sure I do this on our next trip!
ReplyDeleteIt was such fun "listening in"!
DeleteYou know, I just realized that it's been YEARS since we've been in that shop. My youngest (now 7) still doesn't have Mickey ears (shame on me!) I believe we will have to remedy this - and listen to the phone - on our next visit!
ReplyDeleteOh my! No Mickey ears? Well a trip to the Chapeau is definitely in order!
DeleteOh, I've been meaning to do that and I forget every time! I'm going to write that down right now so I'm ready for my next visit!
ReplyDeleteI think it took me 2 or 3 trips to remember -- now I check in on my "friends" every trip! LOL
